The author considers the triad «health — healthy lifestyle — poor health» as one of the basic systems of social and cultural values that preserves the integrity of the culture with its implication for each individual. The author reveals the contents of each of the phenomena of this triad; he sees the cause of the phenomenon «poor health» as the existence of problems in the personal development of the individual. Strategic and educational objectives of the school concerning the formation of health as a sociocultural phenomenon are being provided.

Prevention of drug addiction in the educational environment. P. 39-46.

Drug addiction is a serious social problem in the modern Russia. Due to the rapid decreasing of the age of drug users it is important to find new forms and methods of prevention of drug abuse among young people. This article describes the experience of organizing preventive activities in connection with the educational process in the Moscow secondary school and narcological dispensary. The article specifically focuses on the integrated and long-term character of the preventive activities.

Integration of HIV-positive children in the general education environment. P. 47-52.

For more than 20 years the specially designed training modules for development of the healthy lifestyle of students, including the prevention of HIV infection, have been included in the course curriculum for training social workers, educators, teachers, organizers, and student leaders. However, the authors recommend using specially selected training technologies. The paper describes the outcomes of the project for integration of HIV-positive children into the educational environment.

The formation of a tolerant attitude towards hiv-positive people. P. 52-56.

The paper presents the work with the students, aimed at the prevention of HIV infection and drug abuse. The objectives of the work were informing students about HIV, about the ways of transmission of HIV, about the factors that promote infection, about the dangers of drug usage, the development of behavioral skills that can help to reduce the risk of HIV infection and drug abuse among students, the development of responsibility, tolerance, and moral values of the students, and the development of the ability of the students to anticipate potentially dangerous situations and avoid them.

Multicultural education in Russia: risks and perspectives

The ability of the educational process to help students successfully adapt to and become effective in a multicultural society is becoming increasingly recognized as an important element of education quality in Russia. This paper will provide an overview of the current state of multicultural education in Russia and make projections into the future. The analytical data in the paper is obtained from the school-based multicultural education program tested in North Ossetia, Russia, which was designed by Dr. Natalia Sinyagina.

Readiness of the russian teachers for the prevention of HIV infection. P. 118-122.

Due to the penetration of the HIV-infection into the general population and especially into the youth, the most vulnerable groups of which are students of the primary school, middle school, and high-school, the author characterizes the education system as the social institution that has a number of the unique opportunities for the organization of the successful prevention of HIV-infection. In this aspect the professional readiness of the teachers to conduct such work is of critical importance.
